Some of these I can’t stand, but some of them are brilliant. The thing I love about Gondry and Jonez, especially, is that their ads and music videos are almost always legitimate short films in and of themselves. It’s also astonishing that David Lynch directed a pregnancy test commercial. Did the producers not see Eraserhead??
"Dumb" at Speakers' Corner, Sat May 15 at Noon
Excuse me for the lazy cut & paste from a press release, but I will be at Speakers’ Corner tomorrow, Saturday 15th at noon to support and video this:
“Artist, mother and taxpayer Jemima Burrill will stand mouth-bound, on a bucket from 12 - 1pm on Sat 15 May at Speakers’ Corner in protest of the lack of women in the cabinet, in the negotiations this week and in politics...

Bagpipes - a great Lumière →
This is one of my favourite ever lumières. I started by wishing that the colours were richer and the image sharper, more contrasty. The humanity of it blew all that away. As so often with great lumières, it succeeds in spite of (because of?) the mundanity of its subject and photography. Three things about it that I love: the silence of the bagpipes; the way we get to spy on people’s reactions (the...

My RyanIsHungry.com Video Mixtape for Change
When Obama wins, it’ll be the result of a great surge of enthusiasm for change. Then there’ll be a short window of opportunity when anything will seem possible and everyone will feel motivated. But it’s up to us to make those changes happen - and most of the time we’re immediately stopped dead by our own fear that change is too difficult.
The thing I...

DACULA, GA - As the famous twang of Hank Williams Jr. blasted from an SUV stereo Friday afternoon, about 30 folks socialized, sipped soda and puffed on cigarettes. No, this wasn’t a Fourth of July backyard barbecue. It was the run-up to a wedding. In a Waffle...

Re: [videoblogging] Video Goes Underground →
All right, you bastards, here it is. Videoblogging is my hobby. I’ll never make any money out of it. When I lived in London, people used to hire me to make videos for their companies because I was one of the only people there who had a videoblog. But that’s not the same thing. And now I live somewhere much cheaper, I don’t have to do that anymore, and it’s a relief. I...
